Thanks for sharing! It must be disorienting to return to your childhood neighborhood, only for it to be so different. I visited a childhood home recently and was upset they painted the front door a different color, lol.
We had the classic “a witch lives in that home down the block” thing, but it may surprise you to learn she was just a grouchy old lady. (No magic powers. At least, none confirmed.)
Thanks for this story, I did research like this a few years ago for a mini-documentary I did for my father. It was fun tracking down all of the places he grew up.
I lived in Wynhurst Apartments too! I was also born in 1967 and I lived there as a baby/toddler with my parents. We lived there until I was 4 years old. I have a lot of pictures in my childhood photo albums of our apartment and have very vivid memories of playing in and around our yard and inside our apartment! I also vaguely remember the higher up road you mention. My dad installed a swing set for me, and I remember a ‘big’ hill behind it with a road. It’s so amazing reading this! We probably lived there at the exact same time!
Wow, small world! We were at 3556. There were woods right next to our place and I was always terrified to go more than a few steps into them (looking at maps, I now realize it would’ve been damn near impossible to have gotten lost in them, but I was little). I remember a few kids my age that I ran around with from time to time – maybe we knew each other back then. I have no idea what anybody’s names were now. I do remember one girl had the chickenpox (which I had already had) and it was hilarious because there were two obnoxious boys who were terrified to get near us. And me and the other kids would often roll down the hill beside our buildings and ride our bikes up and down the street.
Yes! What a small world! I don’t know what our address was, and my parents have both passed away so I can’t ask them. I was very little when we lived there, and moved out at the age of 4 so I didn’t really play with neighborhood kids. At least not by myself throughout the neighborhood, but I vaguely remember playing with a couple of other kids with our moms in the room. I have lots of photos of me swinging on my swing set, riding my tricycle, etc etc. I was 4 in 1971 so that’s the year we left. I was there as a baby so I guess we moved in in 1967. I remember taking walks with my mom and dad around the complex and picking up smooth brown rocks lol

That’s great! It’s fun to look back on our personal history.
