I'd bring two books to jury duty, just in case. One would be a safety book, something from a favorite author. The other would be a wild card, probably a non fiction book about a topic I want to know more about.
That's a good point. I think I'm going to bring my sketchbook and try some sneaky art but in case that's not possible or it's just too early for my brain, I'll bring my kindle as well, and that has all kinds of options!
Have you read Judith Tarr? Lady of Horses, White Mare's Daughter, and Daughter of Lir, among others. Ancient historical fantasy! Lot's of fun! Lady of Horses is the prequel to White Mare's Daughter. Daughter of Lir is the sequel. Beautifully written with lots of amazing horses, which made them especially appealing to me.

I once did jury duty with a woman who didn't bring anything to read. She just sat there in the jury room looking at the wall... for hours.
That sounds like torture!
The memory of that woman has haunted me for more than a decade.

No, I've never read those books. They sound amazing! Thanks for the tip.
